World Space Week is a Programme of the United Nations, celebrated annually between 4 and 10 October aimed at creating Space Awareness among the School Students around the World ( It is coordinated by World Space Week Association based in Houston, USA ( Since 2003, Bangladesh Astronomical Society has been regularly celebrating the World Space Week and its main Event is held at Enayetpur, Sirajganj a village which lies about 80 miles northwest of Dhaka.

WSW-2015 was the completion of 12th Anniversary of Celebration of World Space Week at Enayetpur.

Due to some unavoidable circumstances, instead of 4-10 October, this year Celebration of World Space Week was held on Thursday, 19 November at the premises of Mohakash Bhaban, Enayetpur.

At 11:00 – 11:45 Space Art Contest was held in the lawn of Mohakash Bhaban in which about 100 students took part and drew pictures on their imagination about “Careers in Space”.

Simultaneously at 11:00 the Concluding Session of World Space Week-2015 started.

Khan, President of Bangladesh Astronomical Society who passed away on the morning (04:50AM Bangladesh Time) of 25 May, 2015 in St. Mary’s Hospital, London, after slipping down while catching and underground Train in Embankment Station, London. The concluding session of the WSW-2015 was held in the premises of Mohakash Bhaban in which about 2,000 students with teachers and Space enthusiasts had taken part. The programme continued from 11:00 to

15:30. The Concluding Session was made with lots of events like Space Debate, Space Lecture, Space Dance in which students took part and felt them happy. There was another interesting event in which 5 Kids dressed with uniform of Space Shuttle Astronauts, paraded on the Stage for a few minutes so nicely that audience burst into laughers for their excellent performances. At the end successful contestants were awarded prizes.

Among those who delivered their lectures in the Concluding Session were, Prof. Dr. Hossain Reza, Vice Chancellor; Dr. Subodh Kumar Sarker, Chaiman of Dept. of Biochemistry & Biotechnology; Mr. A.T. Siddiquee Register of Khwaka Yunus Ali University; Mr. F.R. Sarker, General Sectary of Bangladesh Astronomical Society and National Coordination in Bangladesh for World Space Week Association; Mr. AFM Hassan, Education Officer Chapainawabganj; Mowlana Abdul Awal, Head Master of Meherunnesa Girls High School; Mr. Wahidozzaman Wahid, Principal of ICL School and Space Enthusiast Mr. Saidul Islam etc.

On Friday, 20th November, Water Rocket Launch Contest was held on the playground of Enayetpur High School from 11:00 to 12.00 in which about 25 Students had participated and launched Water Rockets.
